The Daily Challenge

Lesson 7. Get Better Every Single Day

Do you ever feel like you have to know exactly how to do something before you even get started? Does it prevent you from going after what you really want? Do you often find yourself settling for something that is barely even good enough, but not the best? Me too.

I have struggled with this and I finally I realized that even if getting started is the hardest part, all I have to do is get started! Even if I stumble and make mistakes along the way, that’s okay, it’s better than never stepping up to the starting line and getting in the race!

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” – Zig Ziglar

The Secret Weapon to Success

Lesson 6: Hold Yourself Accountable

How many times have you given up on you? Taking responsibility for your actions also means taking responsibility for your lack of actions. Holding yourself accountable for your actions is a significant factor to reaching your goals.

If you are looking to lose weight to simply feel better or look better, start out by setting SMART goals, set realistic expectations for yourself and what your body can handle if you are just starting out. Then devise a plan to help you reach your goal with specific targets in mind, and see how your body responds to the plan through feedback (loss of weight, feeling better, increased confidence, etc.).

The harder you work towards something (say fat loss), the harder it is to give it up or quit. If you put nothing into loosing the weight, it is very easy to walk away. More importantly if there’s no personal confrontation, there’s no toughening, no personal growth. The key to success and achieving your wildest dreams almost always comes down to getting comfortable at being uncomfortable, that’s how you make progress. Continue Reading →

Does Your Body Feel Like the Living Dead?

Lesson 5: Listen to your Body

Have a nagging injury? Get regular upset stomachaches or headaches? Have chronic back pain? These are only a few examples of common issues that we are use to accepting as ‘normal’. So many of us just tough it out and live with the pain when there are ways to reduce that discomfort in healthy, sustainable ways.

Most of us just don’t listen to our bodies or we simply find a quick fix to take away the issue. I have been guilty of this myself. There was a time when I was in bed for 5 months on medications and couldn’t move! A clear sign that my body was shutting down and all I wanted was for the pain to go away. This pain led to surgery, but all of it could have been prevented if only I had taken a closer look at how much I was neglecting my own health.

I am going to teach you how to better listen to your body, especially when it comes to pain or discomfort. Our bodies are very good at telling us what is wrong; however, our brains are even better at ignoring our body’s needs. We are so use to living in pain, and somehow that becomes our new comfort level.

Your body will tell you exactly what it needs and when…if you listen to it.

My #1 Secret to Fat Loss

“Your dreams tell you what you want…your HABITS tell you what you will get.” -Martin Rooney

You look the way you do because of x (enter habits here). Being fit is a lifestyle. I know you didn’t wake up one day and say, “where the heck did these 30lbs come from?!” You didn’t gain weight overnight, so you can’t expect to take it off overnight either. Your lifestyle choices, your habits, are what got you there. You may have gone a long time living with certain habits and comforts that your health escaped you as an end result. Its not your fault. Developing new lifestyle choices and educating yourself are what will get your health back if you stick to a solid plan.

All you have done is repeat a few (or maybe a lot) of bad habits along the way. If I could share one of the biggest secrets to fat loss, it would be honing in on your habits. Yes, fat loss requires hard work and self-discipline. It’s the self-discipline that is required to manage and influence your daily habits.

Are your daily habits moving you closer or further away from your goals?

Who’s Tipping Your Scales?

Life Lesson 3: Live a Life of Balance

You have probably heard me say often that a well-balanced body is a reflection of a well-balanced lifestyle. Well, I say it a lot because I believe so much in this statement. Life should have an equal balance of work, rest, play, and “me” time.  Balance seems to be the secret weapon for a well-rounded fulfilling life.

I have no shame in admitting I’m a little obsessed with balance, how can I not? I am a Libra after all and today is my birthday. I mention this, not only in hopes that you will send me fun and festive messages and gifts, but because today is a day made for play.  How many of us are lucky enough to have a 2-hour nice dinner on our birthday? Most of the time we are lucky if our birthday lands on a weekend and we can enjoy doing whatever we please! Today is a Monday, a day of work, work, and more work.

I advocate that if you have to work more, then you need to rest more, or play more.  I chose to play today, instead of doing a large amount of necessary work that is on my plate.

I know that tomorrow I can attack my workload with a lot more energy and efficiency if I simply allow myself to play today, on my birthday.
